Health Care

The health and welfare of our dogs is a highest priority. Every dog, from our youngest puppies and dogs in training to our working Assistance Dogs, receives regular veterinary health examinations and behavioural well‑being check‑ins.

Our puppies and dogs are fed Hill’s Science and Prescription Diet food, ensuring they have the nutrition they need to be healthy, happy, and ready for their life‑changing work. We encourage our clients to continue feeding their working Assistance Dogs Hill’s products.

In addition to standard veterinary checks and proper nutrition, Assistance Dogs undergo extra health and wellbeing assessments to ensure they remain fit to perform their work to the highest standard throughout their working lives. These include rigorous evaluations of their eye and hip health.

Throughout puppyhood, formal training, and during their working lives, Assistance Dogs are assessed in person by one of our canine experts at least once annually for physical and behavioural health.

Dogs selected for our breeding programme undergo further screening to reduce any chance of inheritable anomalies being passed to future generations of Assistance Dogs.
