Assistance Dogs New Zealand was established and registered as a Charitable Trust in June 2008. It was first registered as "4 Paws for Ability Aotearoa" but in August 2008 changed its name to Assistance Dogs New Zealand (ADNZ)
Assistance Dogs New Zealand is a not-for-profit organisation. We facilitate the provision of specially trained service dogs for assistance and companionship for individuals (primarily, although not limited to, children with Autism) to enable more independent living. By raising the profile of these Assistance Dogs we aim to increase acceptance of their use in public places.
The purpose of the Trust is to facilitate the sourcing, breeding, raising, training and provision of the dogs.
Our Vision for the Trust it that it will:
At present ADNZ has only one qualified trainer and some of the funding of an ADNZ Assistance Dog is the responsibility of the applicant. Public access is pending.
There is no formal accreditation process in New Zealand at this point. However we received notification of our acceptance for candidacy with ADI (Assistance Dogs International) on the 1st October 2010.

- Provide quality training for suitable Assistance Dog trainers to ensure there is continuity of training and an adequate supply of trained Assistance Dogs to meet the needs of prospective clients
- Become a preferred accredited provider of Assistance Dogs in New Zealand
- Be in a position to provide financial support for families and agencies to enable the acquisition of a trained Assistance Dog
- Raise the awareness for the need and purposes of Assistance Dogs in New Zealand
