Thank  you so much to the Waikato District Health Board Hospital Revue Committee for nominating Assistance Dogs New Zealand as one of the recipient charities for proceeds taken during their theatrical revue in August.
The three night seasons show was a great success and ADNZ were very grateful when presented with a $7,500.00 cheque today.
"It gives a great feeling of encouragement to have this type of support from the community, extended to us and we are truely grateful"

Thank you to Bex Willison for the child's wheelchair - this will be a great training tool to have on hand.

Many thanks to Judy Bail and family for her kind donation of Golden Retriever Ace to our program.  Ace is keen to receive donations to support his development through to completion of training so that he might get that extra juicy bone!

We are happy to announce that as of the 23rd December 2010, Assistance Dogs New Zealand has been given approval from Government, to certify assistance dogs in New Zealand.  This means that our dogs and their users will have the same rights of access to public places - shops, malls and public transport that other service dogs - Guide Dogs, Hearing dogs, Mobility Dogs and Seizure Assist dogs in New Zealand receive.
This is great news and will enable us to make some huge strides in the services we are able to provide and our ability to provide well adjusted and settled dogs to our clients.
Our sincere thanks go out to all of you have supported us to date.  We look forward to 2011 and your continued support.

Due to a kind donation from The Grey family our trainer will now be attending the Assistance Dog International Conference in Canada in June 2010.
This is a wonderful opportunity for us to make connections with other service dog providers world wide, that support international standards of excellence in training and service provision.

With the receipt of a letter from Hon Rodney Hide informing us that local Government is now ready for applications for legal public access from organisations training and placing Assistance Dogs our application has been completed, checked and is now 'in the mail'.
Unfortunately we do not know how long processing of our application will take, but it is great to finally be able to take this positive step forward.
Socialisation for our puppies is an important area that effects outcomes both in training and in adaptability of our dogs once they are out working.  For many, the main focus of having an Assistance Dog is to have that assistance when away from home.
We look forward to hearing how application has been received and hope that this final process of recognition will not take too long.

The Assistance Dogs New Zealand Trust's website went online yesterday. It somehow gives a us a sense of reality, a physical presence in a virtual world. We hope to be able to reach many more people this way, providing information and support for all those interested in Assistance Dogs or affected by disabilities. We welcome your comments and your input.
